In 2017, I decided to do an entry-course into working as a Hospital Musician. My mentors, Gráinne Hope and Liam Merriman were massively influential in shaping my views of music. I performed in Louth County Hospital and The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre.
After this, I decided to put my training into practice by working with Youth Work Ireland Meath in creating a youth project for 15-18 year old musicians to perform in Nursing Homes using the techniques taught to me in my course. This was really effective and gave some inspiration to some up-and-coming young musicians as the elderly can be very honest.
I was recruited again to work with Gráinne Hope and Liam Merriman in Navan. This was a fantastic event, with memories of 1-on-1 performances that I will cherish forever. I was recently asked to partake in an apprenticeship with Gráinne and Liam in County Meath but unfortunately had to turn it down in favour of focusing on my final year. I hope to return to it one day!
