Odhrán O Casaide

Through Dundalk Institute of Technology I had the opportunity to work with composer Odhrán O Casaide. Odhrán’s compositions work towards blending Irish Traditional Music with Classical music.

Held in the Augustinian Church, my first performance with O Casaide was during the Drogheda Fleadh in August 2018 where I performed as the Tenor Soloist in O Casaide’s Marbhna, Requiem for 1916. This was a phenomenal opportunity to work with orchestra, choir, a conductor, a soprano and alto soloist and O Casaide’s daughter, Sibéal, a sean-nós singer.

After this concert, Dundalk Credit Union commissioned O Casaide for the Marbhna Concert to be performed in Dundalk’s St. Patrick’s Parish Church in commemoration of their 50th anniversary. This was a much larger scale project with a full orchestra, army band, choir, conductor, traditional Irish ensemble, a soprano and alto soloist and a sean-nós soloist.

On July 14th to July 18th I have the privilege of being the Tenor Soloist for Odhrán O Casaide’s new work commemorating the Famine Park in Toronto and the great emigration of Irish people to Canada following the events of Black 47′ and the Irish Famine. Stay tuned!
